Player of the Week - September 14, 2009
Each Monday during the fall, one collegiate player originally reported as a recruit by AVSR is named AVSR Player of the Week for her cumulative performance during the current season.
Player of the Week: Zuzana Markova
Freshman; 5' 11" Setter/RH; Kent State University.
Home: Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic.
Last week: After opening the season on the bench, Markova has emerged as the starting setter and part-time RH for a team on the rise. She paced the Golden Flashes last weekend to a sweep of the Wright State tourney, beating Evansville, St. Peter's and the host team, delivering 109 assists (8.4/set) and hitting at a .348 rate (8 kills, no errors, 23 swings).
Excerpt from original AVSR report: "A world-class beach player, Zuzana is less refined as an indoor setter but has vast talents at the position. She has a strong, broad base of skills, athleticism, and instincts plus a superior competitive mentality. She's ready for court time in high-Division I as a setter and/or RH and will improve swiftly with experience. .... Driven competitor and steady performer. Plays a smart, imaginative game with few errors. .... Mother is a long-time player who still competes locally (originally a LH but plays all positions)." [October 2008]
