Player of the Week - September 7, 2009

Each Monday during the fall, one collegiate player originally reported as a recruit by AVSR is named AVSR Player of the Week for her cumulative performance during the current season.

Dagnija Medina

Freshman;  6'0" MB;  University of North Florida
Home:  Riga, Latvia

Last week:  Continued to be an all-around force for surging Division I newcomer North Florida.  Hit .267 (21 kills, 9 errors, 45 swings), scored 11 blocks, served 8 aces, and added 15 digs in wins over Tennessee Tech and Appalachian State and a loss to William & Mary.  Leads the Ospreys for the season in blocks and aces.

Excerpt from original AVSR report:  "Can be an immediate starter at MB in upper/mid-Division I. .... Though technically less clean than typical American middles, Dagnija is more productive.  She plays an observant, efficient, spontaneous game, excelling in out-of system reactions and decisions. .... Will develop especially well in a program that refines her skill mechanics without stifling her sophistication and versatility."  [December 2008]
